Where are you located?
Our bridal studio is located right in downtown Chatham NY. It’s a super easy trip from the Albany area, anywhere in the Hudson Valley, and even from the Berkshires in Mass. It’s the perfect place to take a day trip with your tribe.
What should I expect?
True North is all about celebrating each and every bride-to-be that walks through the door. At your private appointment, we'll chat about your style and the vision for your wedding day. Our goal is to make sure you feel your absolute best as you marry your partner. There will be music, assorted drinks, and a whole lot of fun to be had. We want to ensure your dress shopping experience is a memorable one.
What exactly does True North carry?
True North carries all things “bridal”. We offer bridal gowns and separates, as well as accessories. At this time, we cater only to the bride. Which means we do not carry any bridesmaid, flower girl, or mother-of-the-bride gowns dresses. But we sure can offer suggestions!
What can I do to prepare for dress shopping?
We highly encourage taking a few minutes to read this blog post. It will help you feel prepared which in turn will make you more confident during the process. Finding a dress is totally fun and exciting, but we also completely understand that it can be a bit stressful. But don’t worry! We work hard to keep us in that fun and exciting zone!
When should I begin dress shopping?
We recommend that you begin shopping for your wedding dress at least eight to ten months before your wedding day, as it can take up to six months for your dress to arrive. This amount of time also allows for any alterations to be completed with ease. Certain designers will accommodate tight deadlines, and rush orders are available upon request, but keep in mind fees will apply.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes! Our studio is open by appointment only. This allows us to give you our undivided attention, and supports our ethos of creating an experience that is intimate, and memorable. Book an appointment here. You can also email email@example.com to find a time that works best for you!
Is there an appointment cancellation policy?
Yes, since we are open by appointment only, we kindly ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. We greatly appreciate it!
How long will my appointment be?
Your appointment will run an hour and fifteen minutes. We have you answer some questions before we meet to get to know you a little better. That way, we can dedicate the majority of the time to trying on gowns and having a good time! In the allotted time, you’ll most likely try on anywhere from five to ten gowns. We really love to focus on how you feel in the gowns, so we’ll ask you questions about what you like and don’t like so we can zero in on exactly what you are looking for. The last thing we want is you to feel rushed, and we believe it's just the right amount of time to feel decisive and confident. However, if you need a second appointment, we totally get it, and are happy to schedule another one for you.
Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?
It is helpful to bring a strapless bra, spanx (our forever saving grace!), or shoes that you are considering wearing on your wedding day. Or at least a pair of shoes that are around the possible height you are hoping to wear. These items play an important role in envisioning yourself on your wedding day.
How many people can I bring to my appointment?
Our advice is to keep it sweet, simple, and small. For your sake, we recommend keeping your support crew to under five. We believe that your fitting should be as intimate as possible, keeping the focus on you and your style and vision. Smaller groups allow you to listen to yourself, your opinions, and how you feel. Sometimes too many opinions end up overwhelming your decision, making it difficult to truly trust your gut. And also, we want to comfortably accommodate everyone, as our studio space is rather quaint and cozy. With a studio full of white dresses, and other delicate inventory, we also kindly ask that you leave any kiddos and pets at home. Thank you in advance!
Will I need alterations?
Yes. Since no one person is shaped the same, alterations are always needed, and a key finishing touch to any gown. Our designers make their dresses in standard sizing with a standard size chart. We will take your measurements and order the size that is as closest to your measurements as possible. And in the end, you will be so happy to have a dress that is fitted so perfectly, just for you!
Do you offer / include alterations?
We do not provide 'in-house alterations'. We have connected with a local seamstresses who we are more than happy to refer you to. Please note, True North is not affiliated with any specific seamstresses, nor do we receive any payment from them for your business. Alterations are a separate cost from the purchase of your gown.
What size are the sample dresses? What if they don't fit me?
Guess what? The samples sizes we carry won't fit anyone perfectly. We work hard to be able to accommodate all brides, so if you have a concern beforehand, just give us a shout. We always have a few creative tricks up our sleeve to make sure we give you the best possible idea of how each sample dress will look. If the dress is too big for you, we we have our bridal clips to make the dress tighter where need be. If the dress is too small for you, we will simply clip the gown up to your undergarments. No worries, we got you!
What is the purchase process like?
Glad you asked! After we’ve finished our celebration, we take your measurements and look at a designer size chart together to decide on what size to order. After that, we ask that 60% of the total amount be paid when we place the order with the designer. Finally, the other 40% is due when the dress arrives and you come to pick it up! All accessories we sell at the studio are to be paid in full.
